Rock singer Courtney Love has won her landlord-tenant case, after the owner of her four-story rented town house in Manhattan tried to evict her over nonpayment of rent.
Judge Jean Schneider of New York County Housing Court ruled that the landlord of 250 W. 10th St., who claimed Love, 47, owed $54,000 for two months' back rent, had improperly relied on outdated lease provisions.
TMZ.com reported Thursday that the landlord and Love had agreed to an alternate payment schedule after the lease was signed.
The court found that Love was paying properly under the agreement, while the landlord was claiming a schedule based on the original lease.
The annual rent for the town house is $324,000, paid in two six-month installments, according to the community newspaper Our Town Downtown, which said the one-year lease is with Love's corporation, Cherry Forever Records, Inc.
The judge did not address a claim by landlord Donna Lyon / Astor Street Partners that an accidental small fire in June "demonstrated enormous disregard for the lease agreement and the design vision that makes the home so unique."
Love, the widow of grunge godfather Kurt Cobain, recently wrote on the website XOJane.com that her new band, which recently found a female bassist, "starts in earnest later this year."
