Ellen DeGeneres is returning to her roots with a rare standup-comedy special.
Netflix announced that the Emmy Award-winning daytime talk-show host will headline a televised performance for that streaming service.
“It has been 15 years since I did a standup special. Fifteen years,” DeGeneres, 59, said in a statement. “And I’m writing it now. I can’t wait. I’ll keep you posted when and where I’m gonna shoot my Netflix special. I’m excited to do it; I’m excited for you to see it.”
No projected airdate was given. DeGeneres twice was Emmy-nominated as performer for HBO standup specials — “Ellen DeGeneres: The Beginning” (2001) and “Ellen DeGeneres: Here and Now” — with an additional producer nomination for outstanding variety music or comedy special for the former.
