FBI: No harassment probes for Lohans
Despite reports Monday that the FBI was looking into allegedly threatening and harassing text messages being sent to Lindsay Lohan, her mother and brother, an FBI spokesman in Washington, D.C., said the bureau's New York and Los Angeles offices aren't aware of any investigation.
"We have 56 field offices, so it's possible some other office may be handling it," he told Newsday. "New York and L.A. seem like the logical places. Neither of those two offices seemed to know anything about it. I'm unaware of any investigation."
The report at TMZ.com, citing unnamed sources, said the Lohan family had believed harassing messages came from singer Britney Spears' former manager, Osama "Sam" Lutfi.
But Michael Lohan, Lindsay's father, told Newsday, "I was with Lindsay [on Sunday] and she got one text from Sam Lutfi," and that no texts she got that day "were harassing or threatening in any way whatsoever."
He did say that he asked Lutfi, who had reportedly contributed to the breakdown that prompted Spears' father to obtain a conservatorship over her, not to text Lindsay again.
Michael Lohan also speculated that texts Lutfi sent that were critical of Dina Lohan had prompted a strong reaction from her. Dina Lohan's representative was unavailable to comment.
