Singer-actor and former teen heartthrob Aaron Carter, younger brother of the Backstreet Boys' Nick Carter, has checked himself into a rehab facility for addiction issues.

Carter, 23, who took fifth place in season nine of "Dancing with the Stars" just over a year ago, entered a private Southern California clinic earlier this month, a source told E! Online Sunday night. The exact nature of the addiction was not specified.

His manager, boy-brand impresario Johnny Wright, said in a statement, "He has chosen to enter a facility where he feels he will get the guidance and cleansing he needs, which in turn will help him on the music journey he's about to take."

A Carter confidant told Us Magazine, "He's in a great place. He was struggling a bit so he needed to go someplace to get some help."
