George Clooney tops Forbes' highest-paid actor list with $239 million
George Clooney may not have starred in a blockbuster movie over the past year, but he still managed to top Forbes' list of the highest-paid actors.
According to the magazine, Clooney raked in pretax earnings of $239 million between June 1, 2017, and June 1, 2018, thanks largely to the purchase of Casamigos Tequila, the alcohol brand he founded in 2013 with Rande Gerber and Mike Meldman. The company was sold for $700 million up front, with the potential for another $300 million over the next 10 years. Clooney displaces last year's top earner, Mark Wahlberg, who did not make the cut this year.
Dwayne Johnson placed No. 2 on the list with a paycheck of $124 million for the same time frame thanks largely to the success of his film "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle," for which he received a percentage of the profits. The actor nearly doubled his earnings from the previous year.
At No. 3 was Robert Downey Jr. with estimated earnings of $81 million thanks to roles in the Marvel superhero movie hits "Spider-Man: Homecoming" and "Avengers: Infinity War."
Rounding out the top 10 were Chris Hemsworth ($64.5 million), Jackie Chan ($45.5 million), Will Smith ($42 million), Bollywood star Akshay Kumar ($40.5 million), Adam Sandler ($39.5 million), Bollywood actor Salman Khan ($38.5 million), and Chris Evans ($34 million).
