Smashing a window might not have been such a bad career move for Chris Brown after all: "Good Morning America" Wednesday invited him back to the show.

"I wish him the absolute best," "GMA" co-anchor Robin Roberts said on the program, adding: "We extended the invitation" to return, "and sure hope he takes us up on it."

In an interview Wednesday on OWN's "The Gayle King Show," Roberts told the host that Tuesday's interview subject -- in which she brought up the restraining order placed on Brown by Rihanna after her 2009 beating -- had been pre-approved by Brown "but he acted like he didn't know we were going to go there."

"I brought up something in his favor [the loosening of the restraining order]," she said. "I wasn't trying to go back down memory lane and rehash every detail."

In a staff meeting shortly afterward, Roberts and show producers decided "to keep this [his meltdown] private, and then . . . it popped up on TMZ."

The incident didn't keep Brown from having a good time at his release party for his new album "F.A.M.E." at Manhattan's Webster Hall in the wee hours Wednesday morning. "I wasn't gonna perform tonight, but ---- it!" Brown said, according to E! Online. "A lot of whack ---- happened today." Reports say that Brown performed songs from "F.A.M.E.," including the hit "Deuces," though he closed the evening with a shirtless version of Cali Swag District's "Teach Me How to Dougie."

"He's really all about the fans," DJ Juanyto told MTV News. "There was no drama whatsoever. When he's around his fans, he has all that love." Between his "GMA" appearance and his hot singles featuring Lil Wayne ("Look at Me Now") and Justin Bieber ("Next 2 You"), "F.A.M.E." looked to be a solid contender for a No. 1 debut, before the controversy. Now, it's unclear. Though "F.A.M.E." currently tops the iTunes charts, it slipped to No. 5 on Amazon.com's chart. Brown was still scheduled to appear Tuesday on "Dancing With the Stars."
