It's hard to argue with LL Cool J. "Music has the power to bring people together like nothing else in this world," he said, hosting last night's 56th annual Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

But, LL . . . what about fashion?

The Grammys are known for the show's eye-catching -- often outrageous -- red carpet looks as much as the tunes.

No one melded the two worlds better than Katy Perry, wearing a tulle Valentino gown with music notes gracing the skirt.

"It's musical, for music's biggest night," she said.

The weighty yin to her wispy yang had to be Taylor Swift, in a sleek silver Gucci gown. If Audrey Hepburn was a rock star (well, she was, but if she was a real one) she'd have worn that. "It's like chain mail," Swift said. "I think it's bulletproof. It's really heavy, like a suit of armor."

The night was jam-packed with categories, but we've got a few of our own:

SWEETEST LOOK Red carpet newbie Kacey Musgraves in a blush Armani Privé that glistened. She brought her mom. Mom's advice? "Chest out, stomach in."

RED HOTTEST Nominees include Bonnie McKee (her hair fades from fire-engine red to pink, offsetting a cool blue Gustavo Cadile gown), and P!nk in a cherry red Johanna Johnson strapless. But another newcomer, Colbie Caillat, walks away with it, in a fiery, diagonally slashed dress by Ezra Santos, a Dubai designer we think (hope) you'll see more of on future red carpets.

LOUDEST That's you, Ryan Lewis, in HOUNDSTOOTH!!!

BEST HAT Daft Punk's RoboCop homage was sleek, but imagine the hat hair. We vote for Pharrell Williams' Canadian Mountie look.
