Halle Berry speaks out on breakup with beau in Vogue

Halle Berry, whose romantic travails have become the stuff of Hollywood legend, broke her self-imposed silence Thursday about her months-ago breakup with French-Canadian model Gabriel Aubry, the father of their daughter Nahla, 2.

In a cover story for the September issue of Vogue, the Oscar-winning actress laments what she calls the media's impression of her as "this brooding, twisted, lovesick person who just can't get it right in life. Every story about me is so heavy and dramatic. That's not how I do life."

Berry, 43, whose high-profile marriages to baseball player David Justice and R&B musician Eric Benét both ended in divorce, said this latest relationship had amicably run its course. "There is no discord, there is no fighting. . . . It's just that you realize you are not meant to go the distance with everybody," she told the magazine. But because of their daughter, she said, they "are going to be together forever, all three of us. We are a family until we are not here anymore."

Berry met Aubry, 34, at a Versace photo shoot in 2005, and had daughter Nahla Ariela Aubry in March 2008. By the time the split became publicly known in April, the couple had already been apart for months.

They've continued to have parenting outings together. "We are both 100 percent committed to being the best parents we can be," Berry said. And this breakup has her learning something about herself, she added. "As much as I have always wanted to be in this committed relationship and have the picket fence and grow old with the same person, I'm coming to terms with: Maybe that's just not who I am."
