Michael Lohan was charged Monday with one count of second-degree harassment, a spokeswoman for Southampton Justice Court said Thursday.

This follows a complaint by fiancee Kate Major, who alleged that Lohan, 50, the father of actress Lindsay Lohan, physically abused her.

Major took out an order of protection against Lohan on Wednesday in Southampton Village Justice Court. Lohan must appear for arraignment on the harassment charge Aug. 18.

Lohan told Newsday on Wednesday that he and Major, 27, had only had a verbal argument before he left for Los Angeles to attend his daughter's court appearance Tuesday.

In the complaint, Major says Lohan "started a verbal argument with me because I didn't answer my cell phone when he called. Then he flipped the sofa chair over while I was sitting in it causing me to bump my head in the wall and my body to the floor. . . . He proceeded to throw a shoe at me and kick me in the mouth while I was down on the floor. . . . After he kicked me he said, 'I am going to go back to jail because I am going to kill you!' "

"Michael Lohan is fully cooperating with the police investigation," said his attorney, Lisa Bloom. He "100 percent denies each and every one of Kate Major's allegations."

Is the couple headed for a breakup? "What do you think?" Lohan told Newsday.
