Jessica Simpson found herself in the center of disputed news reports Monday that she was in talks to become a spokeswoman for Weight Watchers.

An Us Weekly article posted on its website in the early afternoon said the singer, 31, who is expecting her first child, is in talks for a $4 million contract to use Weight Watchers to lose post-pregnancy pounds. Simpson, who has seen her weight fluctuate markedly in recent years, would commit to one year under the program to lose a certain amount, the magazine said.

Within minutes of the posting, however, E! Online, citing a person "close to Simpson," said there was no Weight Watchers deal. A spokeswoman for Simpson had no comment.

The Us report, however, specified only that Simpson was in negotiations for a deal. "Our official comment is that we stand by our reporting," an Us spokeswoman told Newsday.

Weight Watchers did not respond to a request for comment.

The publicly traded, New York City-based corporation had signed Oscar- and Grammy Award-winning singer Jennifer Hudson as a spokeswoman in April 2010. Hudson, 30, has lost more than 80 pounds and dropped from a size 16 to a size 6 using the Weight Watchers program and a personal trainer, Harley Pasternak, whose celebrity clients have included Halle Berry, Lady Gaga, Natalie Portman, Rihanna and even Simpson herself.

Simpson -- who recorded multiplatinum albums from the early to mid-2000s and has become a conglomerate industry of fashion, fragrance, hair and beauty-product lines -- announced on Halloween that she was pregnant. She became engaged to former San Francisco 49ers tight end Eric Johnson last November after dating for six months.
