The jewelry-store owners alleging that Lindsay Lohan stole a $2,5000 necklace said Wednesday that they plan to auction the necklace and donate the proceeds to charity.

"The extensive media coverage of this case has been surprising, to say the least, and we are disappointed and upset by the various articles which have challenged our integrity," Geoff and Sofia Kaman, owners of the Venice, Calif., jeweler Kamofie & Co., said in a statement. "[W]e believe the next step toward achieving closure is to donate the now-famous jewelry to charity."

The owners are asking the public to suggest an appropriate charity at NecklaceVideo.com.

Christopher Spencer, the couple's spokesman, said the necklace is being held as evidence by the Los Angeles County district attorney and that the auction would take place after the felony grand theft case against Lohan is resolved.

The "Mean Girls" star, 24, who has pleaded not guilty, is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
