Speaking publicly about the subject for the first time, actor Johnny Depp said reports that he and longtime partner Vanessa Paradisare splitting are unequivocally false.
"The rumors are not true. They are absolutely not true," Depp, 48, told the British newspaper The Sun at Wednesday night's red-carpet premiere of his new movie, "Dark Shadows," a spoof of the 1960s supernatural soap opera. "No matter what I say about this, people believe the opposite. I can't say enough about it not being over."
Another British paper, the Daily Mirror, reported that at Wednesday's premiere Depp also said, in response to breakup claims, "There's no truth anymore . . . It doesn't matter what I say to you right now; it doesn't make any difference."
Paradis did not attend the "Dark Shadows" premiere, People magazine reported.
In January, People said Depp and French actress-singer Paradis, 39 -- the mother of their children Lily-Rose, 12, and Jack, 10 -- were on the verge of breaking up after 14 years together.
The article noted the couple had not appeared together on a red carpet for more than a year, and that Depp had gone solo to this year's Golden Globe Awards, last November's Paris premiere of "The Rum Diary," and last May's Cannes Film Festival screening of his latest "Pirates of the Caribbean" film.
Paradis denied the breakup rumors in January, telling The Sun, "They are false."
