Jones Beach Theater posts summer schedule
The return of the Queen of Soul tops this year's Nikon at Jones Beach Theater summer schedule.
Aretha Franklin is on the comeback trail after recovering from last year's serious health scare. She's got a new album, "A Woman Falling Out of Love," and a new look after losing more than 80 pounds. She arrives at Jones Beach on July 28.
Franklin has been out on the talk-show circuit promoting her album and trying to rally her female fans to enjoy a comeback of their own.
"Don't sit at home waiting for the telephone to ring and all of that stuff because he's out having a ball, having a good time," she told Jimmy Fallon. "Get out there with him."
The Queen of Soul isn't the only royalty heading to Jones Beach. The Kings of Leon, along with Band of Horses, are set for Aug. 10, while the Rib Rock Festival, featuring B.B. King, Buddy Guy and J. Geils Band, arrives on Aug. 27.
This year's concerts, which kick off June 11 with Daryl Hall and John Oates, is packed with classic rock -- including Yes and Styx (July 11), Def Leppard and Heart (July 12), Journey, Foreigner and Night Ranger (Aug. 17), Lynyrd Skynyrd and Doobie Brothers (Aug. 18) and Whitesnake (Aug. 24). And The New York Pops will perform the music of Billy Joel, with "Movin' Out" singer Michael Cavanaugh handling the vocals (Aug. 13).
There's also a lot of dancing on tap with Ke$ha (Aug. 20) and the Identity Festival (Aug. 21), an electronic-leaning festival featuring DJs Pete Tong, Chad Hugo and Crystal Method and performers Kaskade, Nervo and Jessie and The Toy Boys.
Tickets for most shows go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday through Live Nation.
