Justin Bieber turned 18 Thursday with a flurry of birthday wishes, a new car, an appeal for his charity and an update on his relationship with girlfriend Selena Gomez.

"I feel so much different," Bieber joked on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show. "I'm just kidding, man. It's been crazy, man. . . . Just the amount of people that have hit me up and giving me birthday wishes. It's been amazing."

Among the well-wishers were his friend and mentor, singer Usher, who tweeted, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY JB!!! Enjoy your day . . . and drive slow homie!!" and rapper Ludacris, who wrote "Happy 18th bday to my Lil homie . . ."

On Thursday's "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," the singer's longtime manager, Scooter Braun, presented him with the recently introduced Fisker Karma, an Anaheim, Calif.-made luxury electric car that sells for between $95,000 and $108,000 before tax incentives. Braun said the car was a present from himself and Usher. An astonished Bieber pointed to himself when he saw the gift, as if to ask, "For me?" and then hugged Braun and DeGeneres.

"This is amazing!" the nearly speechless Bieber said as he got inside the car, which included a DeGeneres bobblehead doll.

As he had done on his 17th birthday, Bieber also asked fans to contribute to the charity: water, which helps bring clean drinking water to developing nations. Apropos of his birthday, he asked fans to pitch in $18 each.

In response to a question by Seacrest, Bieber said that the "J" ring Gomez displayed in a Valentine's Day tweet did not mean he had proposed. "First and foremost, I'm not engaged," he said. "You know, we're still young, so at this moment in time, this is where I am. So that's all I can really say."

Meanwhile, TMZ.com reported Thursday that Bieber was buying two of three Southern California mansions he's been considering, one for himself and one for his mother, ranging from $6 million to $10 million each.
