After a nine-month absence, rapper Kanye West returned to his 2.7 million Instagram followers Wednesday with a Valentine’s day set of 55 posts over the course of roughly eight hours.
“HAPPY VALENTINES DAY BABE,” West, 40, addressed his wife, reality-TV star Kim Kardashian, in the first post, an image of a piece of stationery with the words written in block-letter handwriting. His final two posts, an hour apart, each read “Kimye,” one a photo of the couple eating ice cream cones, followed by a photo of them dressed for a night out, standing by a silver car.
West had deleted his Instagram account around May 5, after joining the photo-sharing social-media platform the previous September. He closed his Twitter account the same day. West’s old Facebook account, TheOfficialKanyeWest, also remained down as of Thursday afternoon.
In between those three posts, West uploaded 52 images of famous mostly ex-couples, such as Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere; Elizabeth Hurley and Hugh Grant; and Grace Jones and Dolph Lundgren. Some in the photos are deceased, including Princess Diana, Elvis Presley, Tupac Shakur, Marilyn Monroe, Joe DiMaggio, Michael Jackson, John Lennon and former first couple John F. and Jackie Kennedy.
A few remain together, such as former first couple Barack and Michelle Obama; Will and Jada Pinkett Smith; and Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, as well as one fictional couple, Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw and Chris Noth’s Mr. Big from HBO’s “Sex and the City.”
Some celebrities appear more than once. Among them: Kate Moss with Johnny Depp and Pete Doherty; Depp with Moss and Winona Ryder; and Angelina Jolie with Brad Pitt and Billy Bob Thornton. Madonna appears three times, with Sean Penn, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Dennis Rodman, as does Pamela Anderson, with Tommy Lee, Bret Michaels and Kid Rock.
On her own social media, Kardashian, 37, likewise hailed her husband. On Wednesday on both Instagram and Facebook, she posted a photo of herself and West on a sidewalk, his arms around her, with a paparazzo in the background. “I love you to infinity! Happy Valentine’s Day!!!,” she wrote.
The couple married on May 24, 2014, in Florence, Italy, and have three children: daughters North, 3, and Chicago, 1 month, and son Saint, 2.
