Kim Kardashian worked on damage control Tuesday night, posting a message on her website that her 72-day marriage to New Jersey Nets forward Kris Humphries was not a publicity stunt.

"Everyone [who] knows me knows that I'm a hopeless romantic!" she wrote shortly after arriving in Sydney, Australia, Wednesday morning local time to promote her handbag line and wearing neither her engagement nor her wedding rings.

"I want a family and babies and a real life so badly that maybe I rushed in to [sic] something too soon . . . I got caught up with the hoopla and the filming of the TV show that when I probably should have ended my relationship, I didn't know how to and didn't want to disappoint a lot of people . . . I never had the intention of hurting anybody and I accept full responsibility for my actions and decisions . . ."

Arriving with her sister and her brother-in-law, Khloé Kardashian and Lamar Odom, Kim Kardashian, 31, set off a media frenzy at the airport. Police efforts to clear a path for the trio, their bodyguards and entourage failed, reported The Sydney Morning Herald and Sydney's The Daily Telegraph.

The newspapers said federal officers forcibly pulled away paparazzi, throwing some against walls.

The sisters are scheduled to do promotional appearances in Sydney Thursday, and, on Friday, they fly to Melbourne for the annual Spring Racing Carnival, the country's largest horse racing event and an international gala for which luxury brands host tented areas called "marquees."

Kim Kardashian and "Dynasty" actress Joan Collins will appear at the Swisse Vitamins marquee.

As for Humphries -- who along with the rest of the NBA's players remains in a lockout situation as labor negotiations continue -- reports were conflicting Tuesday over whether he would honor a scheduled promotional appearance at a party Saturday at the Chateau Nightclub & Gardens at the Paris Las Vegas casino-hotel.

A spokeswoman for the club told Newsday, "We haven't received a firm cancellation. So right now we're still moving forward."

A spokesman for Humphries told Newsday afterward, however, "The appearance was canceled."
