After skipping a season, Karina Smirnoff is coming back to "Dancing with the Stars."

"Surprise!!! I'm coming back to Dancing with the Stars!" the professional ballroom dancer -- who won Season 13 with actor and Iraq War veteran J.R. Martinez in November 2011 -- posted on Facebook Tuesday after breaking the news to Entertainment Weekly shortly before.

"Last season I was promoting my book and filming a feature film," the Ukrainian-American Smirnoff, 37, wrote, "but every time I checked . . . [social media], so many of you were telling me how much you missed seeing me dance. Of course I missed it too but to be honest your encouragement and support really drove me to make this decision to come back for season 21!"

During her season off from the ABC dance competition, Smirnoff promoted her book, "We're Just Not That Into You: Dating Disasters from the Trenches," and was cast in the independent film "Tango Shalom," which was scheduled to begin production in New York last month.

"Dancing with the Stars" returns Sept. 14.
