Leighton Meester's mom files countersuit
"Gossip Girl" star Leighton Meester sued her mother Friday, alleging that Constance Meester was misappropriating money the actress was sending for the care of her infirm younger brother, Lex. Now, in a countersuit TMZ.com reported Monday, Constance claims that this monthly $7,500 was not earmarked for Lex's care and that, moreover, Leighton attacked her with a bottle on Dec. 11.
Leighton's suit claims that Constance, who is in her mid-50s, "is healthy and physically able to work [but] refuses to do so." It says Constance took money meant to help Lex -- whose unspecified medical condition "recently required him to undergo brain surgery" -- and used it "for cosmetic procedures for herself," including plastic surgery and Botox injections.
The suit also alleges that Constance -- who gave birth to her daughter in a hospital while serving prison time in Texas for smuggling marijuana -- "has an alcohol and substance abuse problem that is clouding her judgment." The suit said Leighton, 25, stopped payments to her mother but continues paying for Lex's medical care and education.
Leighton's suit asks for dismissal of her mother's claim of a 2009 oral agreement that the actress pay Constance $10,000 a month for life. It also claimed that Constance threatened a $3 million lawsuit if her demand wasn't met.
Leighton Meester's spokeswoman did not respond to a request for comment.
