Lindsay Lohan charged in NYC club assault, then in Calif. crash

Lindsay Lohan is facing criminal counts on both coasts after a misdemeanor assault arrest Thursday in Manhattan and, hours later, charges filed by California prosecutors in connection with a June car crash.

The NYPD arrested Lohan, 26, at 4 a.m. outside the Chelsea nightclub Avenue after she allegedly struck Tiffany Eve Mitchell, 28, of West Palm Beach, Fla., in the face. A police spokesman told Newsday that the star was "involved in some type of dispute. . . . She struck another female patron in the face and was arrested a short time later outside the club."

Then, after 9 a.m. Pacific time, the Santa Monica city attorney filed three misdemeanor charges related to a June 8 crash in which Lohan's Porsche collided with an 18-wheel truck. Lohan told police she was not the driver. Detectives, however, determined she was behind the wheel, and prosecutors charged Lohan with providing false information, reckless driving and willfully obstructing police officers from their duties, according to The Associated Press. No arraignment date was announced on the Santa Monica charges. She was given a desk appearance ticket and released in the Manhattan arrest.

Lohan's mother, Dina Lohan, told E! Thursday, "At this time I kindly ask that you extend to my family the time we need to address my daughter's circumstances with the appropriate parties."

Because Lohan has been on informal probation for a 2011 shoplifting conviction, a judge could say the California charges constitute probation violation, leading to jail time.
