Santa Monica prosecutors will reportedly charge Lindsay Lohan this week with lying to police about a car accident this summer -- which may trigger a probation violation that could send the actress to jail.
TMZ.com said Tuesday that the Santa Monica City Attorney's office will file a misdemeanor charge in relation to a June 8 crash in which Lohan's Porsche collided with an 18-wheel truck. Lohan told police she was not the car's driver, a point disputed by multiple witnesses, TMZ said.
Should the charge be filed, said RadarOnline.com, Los Angeles prosecutors will seek jail time for the "Mean Girls" star for violating probation. A spokesman for the Santa Monica City Attorney's office did not respond to a request for comment. Shawn Holley, Lohan's attorney, also did not respond.
Lohan -- who pleaded no contest last year to misdemeanor grand theft in a case involving a necklace stolen from a Venice, Calif., jewelry store -- has been on informal probation, requiring no monthly check-ins with an officer, since March.
