TV hasn't exactly worked out for Lindsay Lohan -- but maybe this will: Friday she launched her long-rumored mobile app, and it's got a name, which hints at a tongue firmly planted in a cheek: "Lindsay Lohan's The Price of Fame."

This arrives in the wake of Kim Kardashian's app, "Kim Kardashian: Hollywood," which launched over the summer and became enormously successful -- and controversial.

Lohan's "Price of Fame" does appear to offer similar shopping elements, and per the news release, it will enable players to "become world-famous celebrities by creating a virtual self that can purchase outfits, accessories, toys and even pets."

That element, of course, is what got Kardashian in trouble with her game -- huge purchases that suddenly appeared on parents' credit cards. Kardashian defended the app, telling Matt Lauer in early August, "I think you just have to be responsible, and don't have your credit card linked to where your kid can just spend if they want to, or ask permission."

Lohan, in a statement, does suggest that this app is, to a degree, a send-up of the famous-too-fast-and-too-young insanity that enveloped her career almost from the start: "The game captures a great part of culture and our current media society. This app is humorous, smart, and engaging."

Meanwhile, for those willing to take a test drive, the app -- developed by Space Inch ("Make it Rain") -- is available at Google Play, Amazon, and iTunes' App Store. The cost . . . free.
