Shawn Chapman Holley, the attorney for Lindsay Lohan, on Saturday fired back at allegations that the actress may soon be charged with felony grand theft in a case involving a $2,500 necklace.

As well, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office is denying a report that Lohan will be charged by Monday.

"We vehemently deny these allegations," Holley said in a statement, "and, if charges are filed, we will fight them in court, not in the press."

The claim appeared earlier Saturday at TMZ.com, which said Holley was informed of the impending charge Friday and spoke with the "Mean Girls" star by phone that day to explain she would likely be charged.

District attorney's spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons denied that report. "I don't know where TMZ is getting their information," she told the Beverly Hills Courier newspaper. "We have our investigation under review and a filing decision has not been made."

Last week, the owner of Kamofie & Co. gave the Los Angeles Police Department surveillance video of Lohan wearing the one-of-a-kind necklace on the day it went missing. RadarOnline.com later reported that the video shows Lohan taking the necklace from the store.

Lohan, 24, reportedly said the necklace was loaned to her and that a stylist forgot to return it on time, according to TMZ.com. Judge Katherine Mader signed a search warrant at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday for police to search Lohan's Venice home, the website said, but the stylist brought the necklace to the police department's Pacific Detective Division before the warrant could be executed.

Because the jewelry is valued at more than $900, its theft could be considered grand theft, a felony.

"Celebrities are loaned jewelry every single day," a source close to the Lohan family, of Merrick, told Newsday. "Some assistants are late in getting things back. Somebody's not going to walk out wearing a necklace," the source added. "Lindsay lives two blocks away and left her information with the woman [store co-owner]. She could have called Lindsay" if there were some misunderstanding.

Lohan, 24, is on probation following court-ordered inpatient rehab treatment, which she completed on Jan. 3. She is scheduled for a probation progress hearing in Los Angeles County Superior Court in Beverly Hills on Feb. 25.
