Retired tennis star Maria Sharapova and her fiance, London-born businessman Alexander Gilkes, are expecting their first child together.
"Precious beginnings!!! Eating birthday cake for two has always been my specialty," wrote five-time Grand Slam winner Sharapova on Instagram on her 35th birthday Tuesday, alongside a photo of her pregnant self standing on a beach.
Gilkes, 42, who co-founded the online auction site Paddle8 and now heads the venture-investment firm Squared Circles, responded in the comments with a smiling face with heart-eyes emoji.
The two announced their engagement in December 2020. Gilkes was married to fashion designer Misha Nonoo from 2012 until separating in 2016 and divorcing the following year. The Russia-born Sharapova previously was engaged to NBA player Sasha Vujacic.
