The famously Christmas-loving Mariah Carey has humorously declared that now that Halloween is over, the Yuletide season has begun.
In a 28-second video posted early Monday across her social media, three Halloween pumpkins sit outside a home's front door in a spooky nighttime setting. Each has a word carved in it to read collectively, "IT'S NOT TIME."
As sepulchral music plays, Long Island native Carey, wearing a floor-length red, sparkly evening gown and strappy platform heels, enters through a creaking door, wielding a baseball bat with peppermint stripes. An unseen clock's loud ticking ends with a ringing alarm, signaling her to batter the center pumpkin to bits.
As she laughs, her perennial hit song "All I Want for Christmas Is You" comes up on the soundtrack, and Carey, in a series of quick cuts, now dressed in a Santa-like outfit, smiles, blows a kiss and cavorts amid Christmas presents, one of which reads, "11/5." The video gives no indication of the date's significance. A text graphic at the end informs us, "It's time!!! To smash that pumpkin and treat it as pie… [']Cause we still gotta get through Thanksgiving!!!"
Carey, 52, who was born in Huntington and raised there and in Melville, Northport and Greenlawn, released her iconic hit "All I Want for Christmas Is You" in 1994. Throughout her career she has had holiday concert tours and residences, and has released holiday-themed TV specials including "Mariah Carey's Magical Christmas Special" last year on Apple TV+.
