New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez and actress Eva Longoria are no longer a couple.

A representative for Sanchez confirmed the split Tuesday, telling Us Weekly, "Mark adores and respects Eva. It really was about scheduling more than anything else. They will remain close friends." Longoria's representative separately confirmed the breakup to TMZ.com.

Sanchez, 25, and Longoria, 37, acknowledged their brief relationship in early September when the former "Desperate Housewives" star responded to prodding from Mario Lopezof "Extra," telling him, "Mark and I are, you know, fine. We're happy just dating."

Sanchez had been linked to actresses Hayden Panettiere and Jamie-Lynn Sigler and model Kate Upton. Longoria filed for divorce from her husband of three years, San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker, in November 2010, citing irreconcilable differences.

This past June she broke up with singer Eduardo Cruz, brother of Oscar-winner Penélope Cruz, after dating him for several months. Longoria was also married to actor TylerChristopher from 2002 to 2004.

The actress has gradually been removing a large tattoo of ex-husband Parker's basketball jersey number. TMZ.com Tuesday showed before-and-after photos of Longoria's back, with the lowercase word "nine" almost gone after laser treatments.

The site said she was also removing a wedding-date tattoo on her wrist and a tattoo of Parker's initials on an undisclosed part of her body.

Longoria's next film, "A Dark Truth," is scheduled to be released Jan. 4.
