McCartney, Shevell to marry this weekend
Paul McCartney and fiancee Nancy Shevell reportedly are set to be married this weekend. The two announced their engagement in May.
McCartney, 69, and Shevell, 51 -- whom he began seeing four years ago after meeting in the Hamptons, where each has a home -- will wed at the music legend's estate in Sussex, England, Us Weekly reports. The magazine said the wedding will be small and intimate, and that the couple will later have a celebration in Manhattan, where Shevell lives.
McCartney's representatives did not respond to Newsday's request for comment.
The Beatles singer-songwriter has been married twice before. His first wife, Linda McCartney, whom he wed in 1969, died of breast cancer in 1998, at age 56. He next married Heather Mills in 2002 and went through an acrimonious divorce six years later, after separating in 2006.
Shevell, herself a breast-cancer survivor, is vice president of administration at her family's Elizabeth, N.J.-based freight company, the Shevell Group. Divorced after a 23-year marriage to attorney and former Nassau County Legislature Majority Leader Bruce Blakeman, she has an apartment on Manhattan's Upper East Side and a home in East Hampton.
Appointed to the MTA board in 2001, Shevell has chaired its Capital Construction Committee, which oversees funding for the Second Avenue Subway and other projects.
McCartney, who performed at Harlem's Apollo Theater in December and at Yankee Stadium in July, proposed to Shevell with a $650,000 engagement ring, Us said.
