Ousted "Dancing with the Stars" contestant Michael Bolton, who last week had choice words for judge Bruno Tonioli, is substituting on the show Tuesday for Susan Boyle, who Monday afternoon had to pull out of her scheduled performance.

Boyle was set to sing Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" but a severe throat infection precluded her flying to do the show in Los Angeles, reported the syndicated TV show "Extra" on its website. "Dancing" host Tom Bergeron explained on-air Monday night that Boyle's doctor had advised her not to perform, and announced Bolton's surprise substitution.

As well, ABC late Monday afternoon told Zap2it.com that tonight's show will include a previously planned performance by R&B singer Ne-Yo, debuting his new single, "One In A Million."

Last year on "Dancing," Boyle performed her signature piece, "I Dreamed a Dream" from the musical "Les Misérables."

The cancellation comes after a planned Sept. 8 appearance on "America's Got Talent" got scuttled when she was denied permission to perform Lou Reed's "Perfect Day." Less than two hours before she was to shoot in Los Angeles, word came that rock legend Reed had personally forbidden the use of the song.

Reed's rep told "Access Hollywood" it was a red-tape foul-up and not the rocker's doing.
