Recently married pop star Miley Cyrus has shot down a tabloid claim that she is pregnant.
After the Twitter account Daily Mail Celebrity repeated a claim from the tabloid OK! Australia saying that Cyrus and actor Liam Hemsorth were expecting a girl they hoped to name Cassidy, Cyrus on Wednesday tweeted in response, "I'm not 'Egg-xpecting' but it's 'Egg-celent' to hear everyone is so 'Happy For Us' .... we're happy for us too! 'Egg-cited' for this next chapter in our lives.... "
In a nod to the Instagram-novelty "World Record Egg” account that earlier this month posted the most-liked photo on that social media platform, Cyrus attached to her tweet a photo of herself with a giant egg superimposed on her midsection, bearing her trademark licking-lips image. "Now, can everyone leave me alone and go back to staring at an egg," the singer concluded.
Cyrus, 26, has not commented further, and "The Hunger Games" star Hemsworth, 29, youngest of the three Hemsworth actor brothers, has not commented publicly.
This is not the first time pregnancy rumors have swirled around Cyrus. After a post-Thanksgiving photo of the singer appeared online in 2017, social-media commenters speculated that the singer was expecting. "RUDE!!!" Cyrus tweeted in response. "Not pregnant just eating a [expletive] ton of tofurkey," a trademarked brand of vegetarian meat substitute.
Cyrus and Hemsworth married Dec. 23 in a small ceremony at their Tennessee home. The two had begun a romance after meeting on the set of their coming-of-age romantic drama "The Last Song" in 2009, and broke up and reunited at least twice before becoming engaged in 2012. They called off the engagement in September the following year, but had reconciled by January 2016.
