Miley Cyrus skipped a planned appearance in Los Angeles Tuesday in order to remain in Australia with her former fiance, actor Liam Hemsworth, sparking speculation that the on-again off-again couple is back together.

E! News said the pop star, 23, was to be at a party to celebrate her collaboration with songwriter Linda Perry, 50, whose “Hands of Love” Cyrus sang for the Julianne Moore-Ellen Page movie “Freeheld.” Without mentioning Hemsworth, Perry told the crowd Cyrus was still in Australia, where the Sydney newspaper The Daily Telegraph had said Cyrus and Hemsworth, who turns 26 on Jan. 13, were seen behaving affectionately at the Falls Music Festival at Byron Bay on Sunday.

The two had arrived at the festival late that evening, the paper said, and were seen headed toward the backstage VIP area along with Hemsworth’s actor brothers, Chris and Luke, and their wives. The Telegraph ran fans’ Instagram photos of Cyrus and Hemsworth at the festival, as well as a grainy Instagram shot of Cyrus at what it said was the Hemsworths’ Wild West-themed New Year’s Eve party.

Cyrus and Hemsworth began a romance after meeting on the set of their coming-of-age romantic drama “The Last Song” in 2009. They broke up and reunited at least twice before becoming engaged in May 2012, and called off the engagement in September the following year.

Their representatives have not commented, and neither has posted on social media about any reunion.

The party for “Hands of Love” went well despite Cyrus’ absence, E! said. Perry told the entertainment-news network that after producer-star Page had suggested Cyrus for the song, “I was expecting a hurricane but she came in all chill, ready to be of service, sang the song like three times and was like, ‘Linda, do you need anything else?’ She was so generous with her time. She was so sweet. I’m a huge fan now because of that.”

Perry, Courtney Love, Juliette Lewis, The Cult’s Ian Astbury and Christina Aguilera all performed at the fete, E! said.
