'Modern Family' star Sarah Hyland told Seventeen she had a kidney transplant, in the latest issue of the magazine out on May 22.
The 21-year-old actress has been fighting kidney dysplasia and had a transplant in April, according to People magazine.
Hyland, who plays Haley Dunphy on the ABC comedy, got a kidney from her father, actor Edward James Hyland.
“You know that family is going to be there for you no matter what,” she told Seventeen. “My dad gave me a freakin' kidney! But it's also the families that you create outside of your family. And you really find out what kind of people you're friends with. It was just amazing, and it really opened my eyes to see who's there for me and who's not.”
She also opened up about her boyfriend Matt Prokop, 21, who is best known for his roles in “The Rocket” and “High School Musical 3."
"He helps me with my medication and takes me to doctor appointments and all the stuff that I need to do to take care of myself,” she said in the issue.
The actress is a youth ambassador for the George Lopez Foundation, which raises awareness for organ and kidney donation, according to ABC News.
