Following Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony's surprise split, celebrity magazines and websites have become hotbeds of speculation about what led to the breakup of their 7-year marriage.
E! Online reported that Lopez tried to make the marriage work, but finally could no longer put up with what the website called her husband's controlling ways. People magazine reported that the couple had been fighting for several months, an assertion echoed by Us Weekly.
The marriage had its ups and downs, Us said -- the couple would fight, but the blowups would be followed by loving and romantic periods. Nevertheless, Lopez was said to be devastated by the breakup, according to Us.
Despite the breakup, the two will continue to produce and appear in "¡Q' Viva! The Chosen," the reality-TV talent search that the couple announced in April. XIX Entertainment, the production company of "American Idol" creator Simon Fuller, said in a statement to CNN Monday, "Both Jennifer and Mark are committed to the '¡Q' Viva!' project and will work on it as planned. The show goes on!"
But the pair went their separate ways during the weekend. Anthony, 42, was in Colombia, giving a concert at Símon Bolívar Metropolitan Park in Bogotá. There he bantered to the crowd, "They're saying I'm single," according to People.
Lopez, who turns 42 on Sunday, was also at work, appearing in a photo shoot at MILK studios in Los Angeles for the fall collection of her clothing line for Kohl's. Monday, said Us, she was flying to Ukraine to sing at a wedding Tuesday.Lopez's publicist and a spokeswoman for Lopez's manager did not respond to requests for comment.
