Long Island native Tatyana Ali (“The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”) and many other celebrity models walked the runway in their best red dresses at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, to support New York Fashion Week’s American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women’s Red Dress Collection fashion show, presented by Macy’s.

The show, hosted by Marisa Tomei ("My Cousin Vinny”), seeks to raise awareness for women’s heart health. One woman succumbs to cardiovascular disease every 80 seconds, according to statistics from the American Heart Association.

“I’m going red to empower women and take on prevention,” said Ali, who hails from North Bellmore. “I’m lucky, I haven’t had heart disease in my family.”

Although the actress hasn’t been directly affected by heart disease, she still tries to promote a healthy heart. She does this by including snacks, like hummus, grapefruit and mixed berries, into her diet, in addition to spinning. Her one guilty pleasure, though: bread pudding.

Ali admits she’s disconnected from Long Island now, but she does take a lot of pride from being from here. “It’s unfortunate, but it’s true,” she said.

"Being from the 5-1-6, you know, sometimes when I tell people [from California] I’ll say ‘I’m from New York,’ and they’re like ‘well, where?’ and I’m like ‘not the city, from Long Island,’ and they’re like ‘oh, that’s not really New York’ and I’m all like, ‘No, no, no,’” she said in an attempt to defend her LI roots.

The star also revealed she no longer spends time on the Island because her family has moved to New Jersey, but recalled her favorite hangout was Friendly’s, located on Jerusalem Avenue.

Ali walked the runway Thursday night wearing an ensemble designed by Macy’s incubator Taneasha Prunty.
