It was anything but "The Simple Life" when socialite Nicole Richie and Good Charlotte lead singer Joel Madden were married at the Beverly Hills estate of her father, R&B/pop singer Lionel Richie.
Her former friend and reality-TV co-star Paris Hilton was not among the 130 to 150 guests, but an elephant was part of the nuptials and rap pioneer Joseph "Rev. Run" Simmons of Run-DMC performed the ceremony on Saturday.
"Joel and Nicole have looked up to Rev. Run, so they wanted him to officiate," a wedding guest told Us magazine Sunday. Simmons is an ordained Pentecostal minister. "They both appreciate his family values and he is an inspiration for both," the guest said.
Attendees included singer Gwen Stefani and her husband, singer Gavin Rossdale; Kris Jenner, matriarch of the Kardashian clan; D.J. Samantha Ronson; and the bride's godfather, music mogul Quincy Jones, according to RadarOnline.com. The site also said that Madden's twin brother, Good Charlotte bandmate Benji Madden, served as best man.
The partying pachyderm, a female trained elephant named Tai, was delivered as "a surprise" before the wedding, the owner told RadarOnline.
The bride wore a wedding dress by Marchesa, and the couple exchanged rings by jeweler Neil Lane. Lane had also crafted Richie's 4-carat engagement ring, People magazine said.
"They wanted an Old Hollywood, glamorous feel to their wedding," a source told the magazine.
Richie, 29, and Madden, 31, have been together four years. They have a daughter, Harlow, 2, who served as flower girl, said Us, and a son, Sparrow, 15 months.
