When all is said and done, it's all about family. Among the countless actors, singers and others who have had children this year - in traditional families or otherwise - here are a representative 10 to remind us of a universal love that we all, celebrity and ordinary Joe, have in common.

SANDRA BULLOCK

Hands down, the year's most surprising baby announcement. On the heels of separating from husband Jesse James after reports of his infidelity, the Oscar-winning actress revealed in April that she and her soon-to-be-ex had begun an adoption process four years ago, and in January brought home infant son Louis Bardo Bullock - keeping him secret from the public for months. After divorcing James in late June, Bullock finalized her single-mom adoption Aug. 13.

NEIL PATRICK HARRIS AND DAVID BURTKA

How I Met My Fathers: Former "Doogie Howser" Harris, who now plays ladies' man Barney Stinson on "How I Met Your Mother," and his caterer partner, David Burtka, became the parents of twins Gideon Scott and Harper Grace, via surrogacy, on Oct. 12.

ALICIA KEYS AND SWIZZ BEATZ

There's Paris (Hilton) and Indiana (Jones) - and now singer Keys and DJ / producer / rapper Beatz, born Kasseem Daoud Dean, have welcomed son Egypt Daoud Dean, born in Manhattan Oct. 14.

MATT DAMON AND LUCIANA BARROSO

The movie star and his Argentine wife of five years had their third child, Stella Zavala Damon, on Oct. 20. The New York couple have two other children, plus a daughter from Barroso's previous marriage.

ELTON JOHN AND DAVID FURNISH

The music icon and his TV/film producer civil partner had themselves a merry little Christmas with the birth of Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, via surrogate.

CÉLINE DION AND RENÉ ANGÉLIL

Amid rumors that the singing star would have her twins by Caesarean section in October, rather than in November when doctors said they were due, Dion and her manager husband had sons Nelson and Eddy by Caesarean section Oct. 23. They were named after Nelson Mandela and Dion's music producer Eddy Marnay, and not the old singer Nelson Eddy. The couple also have a 9-year-old son, Réne-Charles.

KELLY PRESTON AND JOHN TRAVOLTA

Nothing mitigates the tragedy of a lost child - the couple's son Jett, 16, died in January 2009 - but likewise nothing diminishes the joy of a new baby: Benjamin, born Nov. 23. The actor couple also have a daughter, Ella Bleu, 10.

MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY AND CAMILA ALVES

The movie star and the model passed along no doubt ridiculously good-looking genes to a second child, daughter Vida Alves McConaughey, on Jan. 3. She has a 2-year-old brother, Levi.

'THE FIGHTER' STARS

What are the odds? Mark Wahlberg, who plays the film's real-life boxer, Micky Ward, and Amy Adams, who plays his girlfriend, each had kids this year - Wahlberg's fourth, with wife Rhea Durham (Grace Margaret, born Jan. 11), and Adams' first, with husband Darren Le Gallo (Aviana Olea, on May 15).

AMY POEHLER AND WILL ARNETT

The comic-actor couple, who have appeared together in projects from his "Arrested Development" to her "Parks and Recreation," collaborated on their son Abel James Arnett, born Aug. 6. They previously starred in the production of Archie Arnett, born in 2008.
