Refuting tabloid reports that she is at death's door, a healthy-looking Olivia Newton-John says in a new online video she is faring well despite being diagnosed with breast cancer in mid-2017.
"Happy New Year, everyone!" the 70-year-old, four-time Grammy Award winning singer and actress said cheerily in a Twitter and Facebook video Wednesday. "This is Olivia Newton-John and I just want to say," she added with a laugh, "that the rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated, to quote a very famous quote, and I'm doing great and I want to wish all of you the happiest, healthiest 2019 that's possible."
She went on to thank well-wishers "for your wonderful love and support for me and for my Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness Center in Melbourne, Australia. Thank you so much. Happy New Year!"
One of her nieces, singer-actress Tottie Goldsmith, 56, posted the same video Thursday, on Instagram, writing, "She's looking pretty damn fine to me and as Liv would say #loveandlight," A daughter of Newton-John's late sister, Rona Newton-John, Goldsmith had posted a photo of herself and her aunt the day before captioned, "Just giving you the heads up that Livvy is in good health, so let's leave that distressing rumor where it belongs."
Newton-John's only child, singer Chloe Lattanzi, 32, with whom she is close, has a private Instagram account and had not commented publicly elsewhere.
Newton-John — who as an actress is best known for the hit movie-musical "Grease" (1978) — successfully underwent treatment for breast cancer in 1992. She learned in May 2017 that it had returned. "I'm going to be fine," she told "Today" that September. "And I will probably deal with this in my life as an ongoing thing. I think you can live with cancer, like you can live with other things, if you take care of yourself."
Newton-John's 1970s hits included "I Honestly Love You," "Have You Never Been Mellow" and a trio of songs from "Grease."
