Reports: Heather Locklear arrested in hit-run accident

Heather Locklear has been arrested in a hit and run. The victim: an innocent "no parking" sign that was just minding its own business.

Locklear, 48, was charged with a hit-and-run misdemeanor Saturday after allegedly knocking over the sign on a road near North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif., according to TMZ.com. A Ventura County Sheriff's Department official told the site that, technically, a hit-and-run citation constitutes an "arrest."

Blair Berk, Locklear's attorney, said in a written statement the "Melrose Place" star "was cited with a misdemeanor traffic ticket as she is the registered owner of the vehicle. She was never taken into custody. The matter is still being looked into as it is not yet clear who was driving the vehicle."

Locklear's black 2005 BMW apparently hit the sign around 4 a.m., according to a resident who heard but did not see the crash and called the sheriff's department at 7:48 p.m. that night, TMZ said. Deputies at the crash location found the fallen sign and debris that law enforcement officials traced to Locklear's car. Officers appeared at her nearby home the next day.

The actress "was not handcuffed or taken to a station because it was just a misdemeanor charge," Sheriff's Department spokesman Ross Bonfiglio told People magazine. "She was cooperative, but I can't give any information about any statements she made. She was cited and released. She signed a document stating she would make a court appearance," set for May 17.

Bonfiglio told E! News "there was no indication of a DUI." Locklear had been arrested in Santa Barbara in 2008 and charged with driving under the influence of prescription medications. She pleaded no contest to a reckless driving misdemeanor and got 3 years' probation.
