Richard Gere and his wife, the former model-actress Carey Lowell, reportedly have separated after 11 years of marriage and one child.

People magazine said Wednesday that "Pretty Woman" star Gere and Huntington-born Lowell have been apart for some time. According to reports, Gere, 64, has been living at the couple's home in Bedford, in Westchester County, while Lowell, 52, has been staying at Strongheart, their 12-bedroom estate in North Haven. Sotheby's International Realty currently lists that 6.3-acre property for $65 million.

The couple married in November 2002 after dating for about seven years, People said. Their son, Homer James Jigme Gere -- named after Gere's father Homer and Lowell's father James, followed by the Tibetan word for "fearless" -- was born in February 2000.

Gere and Lowell were last seen together publicly on June 10, when they attended a Citymeals-on-Wheels fundraiser at Rockefeller Center, "Rumble at the Rock," featuring New York chefs competing with California chefs. Among those cooking were Jeremy McMillan, chef at the historic Bedford Post Inn owned by Gere, Lowell and their neighbor and partner Russell Hernandez.

Gere was previously married to supermodel Cindy Crawford, divorcing in 1995 after four years. Lowell, who played Bond girl Pam Bouvier in the 1989 movie "Licence to Kill" and Assistant D.A. Jamie Ross on the TV drama "Law & Order," had been married to fashion photographer John Stember, then from 1989 to 1995 to actor-director Griffin Dunne, with whom she has a daughter, Hannah, 23, People said.
