Richard Gere to be honored at Hamptons film fest

Richard Gere will attend the upcoming Hamptons International Film Festival, where he'll be interviewed by Alec Baldwin and receive a lifetime achievement award for acting.

Gere, 63, will be honored for a nearly 40-year career that includes the acclaimed drama "Days Of Heaven," the infamous "American Gigolo," smash hits like "Pretty Woman" and "An Officer and a Gentleman" and the current release "Arbitrage." He'll receive the award Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. at Guild Hall in East Hampton.

The news of Gere's attendance and award is one of the first official announcements from this year's Hamptons festival, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary over the Columbus Day weekend. Other actors scheduled to take part in the festival, which runs Oct. 4-8, are Bella Heathcote ("Dark Shadows"), Dree Hemingway (daughter of the actress Mariel) and Nate Parker, Gere's "Arbitrage" co-star. A full lineup of films and events is expected to be announced next week.
