Rihanna rocks sheer gown at CFDA awards

There's no question who reigned as queen of the night at Monday night's CFDA Awards.
Rihanna, recipient of this year's Style Icon Award, caused a major clamor, making her entrance at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall in a fishnet gown and cap embellished with more than 216,000 Swarovski crystals, crafted by her longtime costume designer, Adam Selman.
Rihanna worked a Great Gatsby look, but she didn't forget her love of shock value. The dress gave new meaning to the concept of sheer (she strategically accessorized with a pink fur stole). "You will never be stylish if you don't take risks," she said on the red carpet. Right.
Other stars looking chic and sleek with just a hint of sexy included Blake Lively in a Michael Kors mini, Marion Cotillard in short white Dior, and Heidi Klum in a Donna Karan she plucked right off the designer's resort runway that very morning.
The most surprising stumble? Lupita Nyong'o, the darling of the awards-season red carpets earlier this year, looking somewhat awkward in a cropped top and pants by Suno.
As to the winners, top awards went to Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osbourne of Public School for menswear, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen for The Row for accessories and Joseph Altuzarra for womenswear.
The Swarovski awards (for emerging designers) for womenswear went to Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters for Creatures of the Wind, accessories went to Irene Neuwirth, while menswear went to Tim Coppens.
