Scott Baio denies molestation allegations by former ‘Charles in Charge’ co-star Nicole Eggert

Actor Scott Baio has again denied allegations by his former “Charles in Charge” co-star, Nicole Eggert, that he sexually molested her repeatedly when she was a minor.

“I don’t know if you’ve ever been on a sitcom set,” Baio, 57, told “Good Morning America” co-host Amy Robach Wednesday, speaking of his 1984-1990 sitcom. “On any given day, on every day . . . there’s teachers, parents, family, crew, producers, my dad. So how any of this could’ve happened is absolutely impossible.”

Baio — who had previously issued a denial in a Facebook video — said he was never alone with Eggert, 46, who was 12 to 18 years old during the show’s run, “unless I was in a scene alone with her, and directors and producers and crew guys are watching.”

When asked about Eggert’s tweet Saturday about an off-set encounter at “his garage at his house when I was a minor,” Baio laughed and said, “I have no idea what that means.”

He additionally attacked Eggert’s comments in a now-deleted 2013 video interview at TheDirty.com, excerpted Monday at TheBlast.com. Eggert had told host Nik Richie that she had arranged with Baio to end her virginity after production on the show had ceased and she was “17, almost 18 years old.” Additionally, “When I was, like, 16 . . . we did not have sex but we messed around.”

“She said in the Nik Richie interview . . . that we had sex when she was 17. And she said we had sex long after ‘Charles in Charge’ was done,” Baio said. “So Nicole Eggert was born in January of 1972. ‘Charles in Charge’ ended in the fall of 1990. So that would have made her an adult, 18 plus. And she said that it happened long after ‘Charles in Charge’ was done. Those are her words.” Saying that “her story keeps changing,” he added, “I’m not the first person she’s done this to,” offering no evidence or specifics.

Richie posted a statement at TheDirty.com Tuesday, recalling that, “Nicole was distraught after the interview and off air she was an emotional wreck. She told me it was much worse than she described on air. She said ‘he molested me as a child and I didn’t know any better.’ I can vividly remember that statement. It’s not one you would forget. . . . She was visibly shaken and her eyes were watering. . . . I wish now I had done more.”

Robach asked Baio about both that statement and a comment by “Charles in Charge” actor Adam Carl, who tweeted Saturday to Eggert, “I know you’re telling the truth and I’m so glad to see you speaking out.”

Baio dismissed both men’s remarks, telling Robach, “I don’t know what they’re saying. I have no idea. I don’t know why they’re saying it.”
