Seacrest taking over for Lauer?

Ryan Seacrest as Matt Lauer's replacement on "Today?" Consider the intriguing tradeoffs: "American Idol" tie-ins . . . Kim Kardashian as "Today" contributor (he produces her shows). . . and maybe even a name change ("E! on Today.") Maybe we should get used to the idea. The Wall Street Journal Wednesday reported NBC is pursuing the "Idol" host. An NBC spokeswoman declined to comment. Seacrest has been cited as a candidate for other high-profile gigs though usually with the condition that his ties to Calfornia are unbreakable. Would "Today" move to L.A.? Highly unlikely. Moreover, Seacrest is believed to be TV's highest paid on-air personality with a salary -- by at least one estimate -- exceeding $100 million. Before a recent contract extension, Lauer was the highest-paid figure in TV news, at $17 million.
