Snooki confirms pregnancy, engagement

Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi of MTV's "Jersey Shore" has confirmed she is indeed pregnant and engaged to her boyfriend of a year-and-a-half, Jionni LaValle.

"I didn't want to lie to my fans, but the cardinal rule when you are pregnant is that you can't tell anyone but your closest friends and family till after three months," Polizzi, 24, told Us Weekly in the issue being published Friday.

"You have to do testing, so I wanted to make sure the baby is OK. Things can go wrong, like a miscarriage. It was my business and I wasn't ready to tell," she said.

Polizzi said she and LaValle, also 24, learned the news early in the new year.

The first person they told was his sister, she said, "because she is pregnant right now. We were asking her how to read the pregnancy test! My dad was upset. He said, 'You have your whole life ahead of you.' We didn't talk for a week. He came around eventually, and now he can't wait for the baby. My mom is so happy for me."

LaValle later proposed, on Valentine's Day.

Polizzi, who's currently filming her spinoff series with friend and fellow "Shore" star Jenni "JWoww" Farley, suggested her "Jersey Shore" days are numbered. "If anything, I'll visit the shore," she said. But "I'm not living in that house being pregnant."

"Nicole is thrilled to finally be able to share her happy news with her fans," MTV said in a statement. "We wish Nicole a healthy and happy pregnancy and congratulate her on her engagement. We support her as she starts this new chapter of her life."
