Sofia Vergara, Joe Manganiello engaged, report says

"Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara and "True Blood" actor Joe Manganiello, who began dating earlier this year, reportedly have gotten engaged.

E! Online said Monday it had confirmed that Manganiello, who turned 38 on Sunday, had proposed on Christmas Day to four-time Emmy Award nominee Vergara, 42. Representatives for the actors did not respond to Newsday's requests for comment. Vergara's most recent tweet mentioning her beau was on Sunday, when she wrote, "Happy happy bday to my love and best friend, [two heart emojis] to the one that makes me laugh like crazy! Have a healthy wonderfull [sic] year babe!!! @joemanganiello."

Manganiello's most recent pertinent tweets, also on Sunday, concerned both Vergara and his hometown Pittsburgh Steelers, who beat the Cincinnati Bengals that day to take the AFC North football championship.

Engagement speculation arose late last month when the couple was seen shopping at the King Baby jewelry store in Los Angeles. E! said at the time they purchased rings, necklaces and other pieces for family and friends, with Manganiello buying Vergara a $640 rose ring and her buying him a wing pendant. The two have been vacationing in Hawaii over the holidays.

In 2010, Vergara began an on-and-off relationship with Florida businessman Nick Loeb. In May she and Manganiello -- this year's People magazine Hottest Bachelor -- were introduced at the White House Correspondents Dinner, which Vergara attended with then-fiance Loeb. A few weeks later, the actress announced that she and Loeb had called off their engagement. Vergara and Manganiello were first linked in early July.

Colombia native Vergara had married her high-school sweetheart Joe Gonzalez, when she was 18, and gave birth to their son, Manolo, in September 1992. She and Gonzalez divorced the following year.
