Shortly after police in Anderson, Ind., announced they were seeking domestic violence charges against Amber Portwood, a star of the MTV reality show "Teen Mom," the anger-challenged mother of toddler Leah went into denial mode.

"None of this is true," she told the gossip site HollywoodLife.com. "They can't charge me if they don't have proof." Despite one incident being seen in a September episode - in which Portwood, 20, was shown slapping and punching the child's father, her ex-fiance Gary Shirley, with Leah nearby - Portwood insisted, "I didn't hit Gary in front of Leah so there are no felony charges."

In a Nov. 16 affidavit of probable cause that police filed with the Madison County prosecutor, Det. Jake Brooks said his investigation showed evidence of three counts of battery - two of them felonies due to the presence of a minor. He writes that he "obtained a subpoena for 'raw/uncut' versions of the episodes where domestic violence occurred [and] viewed numerous episodes that were aired on television and some [scenes] there were edited out and not shown."

In the document, posted by TMZ.com, Brooks describes one incident in which "Amber got into a fighter stance and punched Gary several more times in the facial area and the upper body. . . . Leah is clearly sitting on the floor in the same room. . . . This incident was NOT shown on Mtv [sic] and was located after obtaining the subpoena." Brooks also writes that Portwood "implicated herself" during two reunion episodes.

On Oct. 20, the document says, Shirley, 24, told police all the incidents were real and not staged.

Should the prosecutor issue charges against her, Portwood faces up to 3 years in jail and fines of up to $10,000, Anderson police spokesman Mitch Carroll told CNN. Newsday's calls to the Madison County prosecutor and the Anderson police department were not returned.
