Ex-wrestler Jim 'The Anvil' Neidhart arrested
Authorities say former WWE wrestler Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart has been arrested on drug charges in Florida, according to The Associated Press. A Hillsborough County Sheriff's arrest report says the 55-year-old was arrested Sunday. The report says Neidhart was yelling outside a gas station and was seen swallowing several pills. He had Oxycontin pills and methadone that were prescribed to someone else, according to the report. The sheriff's office says the person whose name was on the pills had reported that her medication was stolen from her home. The Tampa Tribune reports that Neidhart is being held on charges of possession and trafficking in a controlled substance and burglary.
MDA raises $58.9M in down economy
Despite the struggling economy, officials with the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon say contributions and pledges from this year's Labor Day event totaled $58.9 million. The amount was down from nearly $60.5 million last year and a record $65 million in 2008. But Lewis says he's heartened by Americans' ability to help others in need even when they're struggling. Lewis, national chairman of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, praised the progress the organization is making for people living with muscle diseases. The 45th annual telethon originated for the fifth consecutive year from the South Point Hotel in Las Vegas and reached about 40 million viewers through 170 television stations. Dozens of performers joined the 21 1/2-hour event, including Barry Manilow, Michael Feinstein, Carrot Top and Norm Crosby.
