Curry moves into 'Today' co-host role

After 14 years on "Today," primarily as the news reader, Ann Curry began her duties Thursday as co-host of the NBC morning show, reports Newsday's Verne Gay. "I'm Ann Curry in for nobody, I guess," she began jauntily yesterday. "I really feel like Cinderella." Curry will have an "exclusive" interview with President Barack Obama to air Tuesday. The network said she will talk to the president about the current state of the economy as well as the lead-up to the 2012 election.

Fans plead but Flo Rida charged with DWI

A large crowd pleaded with officers to let rapper Flo Rida go and one fan offered to drive him home after he was charged with driving under the influence early Thursday in Miami Beach, police said, The Associated Press reports. According to an arrest report, officers spotted his 2008 Bugatti driving erratically about 3:45 a.m. The report said the rapper, 31, whose real name is Tramar Dillard, failed a field sobriety test, blew twice the legal limit on a device to measure his blood-alcohol level, had bloodshot, watery eyes, and slurred his speech.

Storm shuts down Black Eyed Peas show

A free Central Park concert headlined by the Black Eyed Peas was canceled yesterday when a thunderstorm hit, disappointing the estimated 60,000 fans that were expected to have gathered, Newsday contributor Frank Lovece reports. Organizers of the Concert 4 NYC benefit show for the anti-poverty Robin Hood Foundation began evacuating the Great Lawn shortly after 8 p.m. Organizers had no information on a makeup date.
