Tom Cruise arrived in Manhattan Tuesday to visit his daughter Suri, 6, for what appears to be the first time since he and Katie Holmes announced their divorce settlement on July 9.

The film star, 50, was photographed carrying his daughter into Manhattan's Greenwich Hotel after flying overnight from California, where he finished shooting the movie "Oblivion" on Sunday, People magazine reports. The magazine said the two plan to spend several days together.

TMZ.com said their stops Tuesday included Chelsea Piers for Suri's gymnastics lesson. One of Cruise's sisters, Cass, was photographed at the hotel with a unicorn plush toy and other children's gifts.

Cruise and Suri had been video-chatting regularly before the visit, according to RadarOnline.com.

The family was last seen publicly together on June 16, eating dinner at the Sushi Samba restaurant in Reykjavik, Iceland, where Cruise had been shooting "Oblivion" on location. He was still filming there when Holmes, 33, filed for divorce in New York on June 28.

Meanwhile, at about 9:30 p.m. Monday, a Mercedes-Benz in which Holmes and Suri were riding was struck by a New York City Sanitation truck, according to Reuters. No one was injured.

Holmes and Suri had been passengers in a car struck Friday by a paparazzo's vehicle as the two were returning home from a trip to the FAO Schwarz toy store, People said.
