After having exclaimed to a wafer-thin model, "You have the smallest waist in the world . . . look at this waist!" in a promo last week for the new season of "America's Next Top Model," Tyra Banks - an advocate for healthy bodies for models - backtracked Monday following charges of hypocrisy.

Issuing a long statement of apology on her website, Banks wrote, "I am truly sorry for the style in which the 'Top Model' promo clip was presented." She also apologized to "the people who see me as a representation of upholding the fact that beauty comes in all sizes."

The supermodel, 36, who hosts and is a creator and executive producer of The CW modeling competition, said this specific promo has been taken off the air.

Of the 19-year-old, 6'2", contestant named Ann from Dallas, Banks wrote. "I offered her the same level of support and encouragement I've extended to all younger women that have opened up to me."
