Lindsay Lohan, in a surveillance video recorded at the jewelry store where she allegedly stole a $2,500 necklace, tries on rings, frequently texts and chats with a clerk in excerpts broadcast Monday on "Entertainment Tonight."

The video, which has been entered into evidence in her pending trial for felony grand theft, shows a smiling and carefree Lohan, her hair pulled back, walking into the Venice, Calif., store Kamofie & Co. at 5:38 p.m. Accompanied by an unidentified male friend.

The "Mean Girls" star, 24, is seen from four camera angles. The entirety of the video runs 42 minutes. Thirty-eight seconds have been placed online at the show's website. More excerpts, promoted as showing Lohan wearing the necklace and walking from the store with it, are scheduled to air Tuesday.

Former Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Marcia Clark, interviewed on the show, said the timing of the video's release "seems suspect, but I have to say it may not be. This simply may be the time it took for the store to decide they're going to show their side of things. Because people were out talking about how, 'Oh, Lindsay didn't mean to, she forgot, the store is being heavy-handed.' Perhaps this is the store's defense to all of those claims."

She and criminal defense attorney Lou Shapiro, who was also interviewed, agreed that much depends on how Lohan's actions are interpreted.

"You watch the action of the actors, actions that will indicate to you knowledge and intent," Clark said.

Lohan has maintained that the necklace was borrowed and returned late, and has pleaded not guilty. She is due next in court on Thursday.
