Zooey Deschanel converts to Judaism, report says

Did Zooey Deschanel convert to Judaism for her husband, venture capitalist Jacob Pechenik?

Us Weekly on Monday said the 35-year-old "New Girl" star -- whose actress mother is Roman Catholic and whose father, five-time Oscar-nominated cinematographer Caleb Deschanel, is Quaker -- had done so before her unpublicized wedding this summer.

Deschanel and Pechenik -- a principal of Venture Forth Capital who has served as an executive producer on more than a dozen films -- announced their engagement in January and had their first child, daughter Elsie, on Aug. 3.

Deschanel's representative did not respond to a Newsday request for comment.
